I have been here before and the food and service were fine. However, I then brought a friend here and she was treated quite poorly.
She merely wanted to ask a waiter if the veggie breakfast included veggie sausages as it was not listed when ordering online. The first waiter she asked who had just finished serving a neighbouring table cut her off and didn’t allow her to ask her question and said “not now”, he will come back. He kept serving in our area but never returned to help.
Another waitress came to serve at a neighbouring table and when she finished my friend was about to ask her, but this waitress literally held up her hand to silence my friend and didn’t allow her to ask her question. The neighbouring customer she was serving was shocked and made a comment, after which the waitress asked my friend what she wanted and answered very rudely. We then left as the treatment from staff was inappropriate.
The issue was not the food, but the attitude and lack of basic courtesy from staff. Customer-facing staff should treat people respectfully regardless of their background. Better customer service training is clearly needed.
Sonoma, Gatwick — A Surprisingly Lovely Start to a Long-Haul Journey
Flying to Beijing for business today, with Gatwick a first for me. Not knowing quite what to expect, I arrived three hours ahead of departure — and found myself with plenty of time to spare.
Rather than leave my appetite to the mercy of in-flight catering, I decided to sit down for a proper brunch at Sonoma. It turned out to be one of the better airport dining decisions I’ve made.
The vegan omelette with sourdough toast was genuinely delicious — not “decent for an airport” delicious, but actually delicious. The orange juice was fresh and the coconut flat white hit exactly the right note. By the time I’d finished, I was quietly confident I could skip the meal trolley entirely and settle in with the TV series I’d downloaded on my iPad instead. A very good plan.
What made the experience stand out, though, was the service. Airport staff can so often seem harried or indifferent — entirely understandably given the environment — but the gentleman who took my order was a welcome exception. Friendly, attentive, and consistently smiling, he made the whole stop feel unhurried and genuinely warm.
If this is what Gatwick has to offer, I may have been missing out.

Nice food, amazing service especially for a restaurant at the airport. One of the best organisations in terms of how the team is working both boh and foh and the stuff thats is working on a pass section. Love that also more experienced staff is teaching younger staff members in a very nice manner how to do things properly. Quite impressed with this place. I didn't get the name of gentleman serving my table, he has abit longer hair in a bun, he did a great job. 😀

Honestly, I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. The pasta was all stuck together and didn’t look fresh at all. It didn’t taste fresh and was not pleasant to eat.
What made the experience even worse was the staff attitude. The people serving customers were rude and arrogant, and they were swearing in Portuguese between themselves while customers were there. I didn’t find that professional or respectful at all.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place.

Service is fantastic & that’s where the good ends. They pre-make most of their food so if you want anything changed they can’t do it. I ordered a salad plate with mixed elements, but didn’t want one element & was told it’s all pre-made so can’t do it - how many hours is the food sitting around pre-made?? Salmonella no thank you!
Chai Latte was a disaster & how can you stuff that up?! It’s literally powder or syrup, water & milk but it was the colour of dirty dish water & was so watery, it didn’t taste of anything. It’s also the size of an espresso - tiny for almost £5.
